Adapting your home

Handrails outside a property

Who can we help?
We endeavour to help any Tai Tarian tenant who:

  • has a long term disability
  • has difficulty accessing different parts of their home and/or essential facilities (like the kitchen, bathroom, living room or toilet)

How can we help?
Your first step is to arrange a visit from either our Works of Adaptation team on 01639 508477 or an occupational therapist (either via the local authority or an independent service). They will assess you and provide a recommendation outlining your adaptation needs.

You then need to pass the recommendation to us for our consideration.

The type of adaptations that we look to provide are:

  • external/staircase lighting
  • stairlifts
  • bath/shower alterations
  • level door thresholds
  • ramps
  • heating controls
  • white and yellow edges to steps
  • handrails
  • grab rails
  • lever taps
  • sensory aids

Each case is considered on its own merit and is subject to approval and availability of funding.

It will be explained to you that you may be liable for a service charge for the maintenance and/or servicing of the equipment.

Please note: Larger adaptations such as extensions should be referred to the local authority which is responsible for funding that type of work.
