Restart a Heart Day
Thursday 16 October 2025

This Restart a Heart Day, we’re celebrating the growing network of life saving resources across our communities, encouraging everyone to take time to learn CPR and how to use a defibrillator.
Since 2021, we’ve installed 12 across the borough, thanks to our Community Benefits Fund and support from local councillors. These devices, supplied and maintained by the Heartbeat Trust, are placed in key locations to provide vital support in emergencies. The most recent defibrillator was installed on Tuesday in Cillfrew, further strengthening our community’s ability to respond in an emergency.
Defibrillators are designed to be simple and intuitive. Once opened, they guide you through every step, even if you’ve never used one before.
Using a defib within minutes of a cardiac arrest can increase survival rates by up to 75%. That’s why having more of them in our communities and knowing where they are is so important.
Residents at three of our Haven schemes benefitted from defib awareness training delivered by the Heartbeat Trust earlier this year. These sessions helped build confidence and understanding around how defibrillators work.
“Knowing we have one here on site makes me feel safer,” said Andy, a resident at Llys Nant Fer.
“I’d encourage everyone to find out where their nearest is in their local community, you never know when you might need it.”
