A financial lifeline for tenants
Thursday 19 March 2026
It’s hard to overstate the impact our Financial Inclusion Team (FIT) and Income Teams have on the tenants they support, but the numbers speak louder than words.
Since stock transfer, these teams have helped tenants access over £54.5 million in additional benefits as of early 2026. That’s money going directly into our communities, helping tenants stay secure, reduce financial stress, and improve their wellbeing.
Teams have been vital in helping tenants navigate the post‑Covid cost of living crisis. Whether someone needs a quick bit of advice or long-term support, no one is left to struggle alone.
Any tenant facing money worries can turn to the FIT team. They offer friendly, practical support with things like:
- Setting up payment plans and arranging repayments
- Benefit checks and entitlement advice
- Help with benefit applications, reviews, and appeals
- Support with changes in circumstances
- Budgeting guidance
- Signposting to specialist debt support and much more
One recent case shows just how powerful that support can be.
A tenant who is deaf received a migration notice and went to the Jobcentre for help. Without internet access and unable to complete the online claim himself, he explained his situation but was turned away and told to apply online. He had no family, no friends who could help, and no way to complete the process alone.
Despite these barriers, he kept receiving text messages from Universal Credit. It took several phone calls and one of our staff members accompanying him to the Jobcentre to get the issue resolved.
At the end of it all, he told us that if it hadn’t been for Tai Tarian’s help, he wouldn’t be here today.
His story is just one of many and a reminder of why this work matters so much.
The teams handled their very first Universal Credit case back in 2015. Today, the managed migration of thousands of tenants to Universal Credit is complete.
Together, they’ve helped tenants verify their details, manage deadlines, and secure the support they’re entitled to, reducing stress at every stage.
As we celebrate 15 years, we’re proud of the huge difference these teams have made. Their compassion, persistence, and dedication have changed lives, protected tenants’ wellbeing, and strengthened our communities.
And as the future brings new challenges, one thing is certain: we’ll continue to be here for every tenant who needs us.
