A better space for wellbeing

Thursday 08 October 2026

Work has now been completed on a programme of improvements at NPT Mind, thanks to £10,000 of funding we secured through the Welsh Procurement Alliance. The project has transformed several areas of the charity’s building, creating safer, brighter and more welcoming spaces for the many people who rely on its support every year.

The refurbishment focused on repairing water damage, refreshing the interior, and modernising key facilities to ensure the building continues to offer a supportive environment for local people. Inside, water‑damaged wallpaper was removed and replaced, damaged plaster was repaired and re‑skimmed, and walls were redecorated using designs chosen by NPT Mind. Floors were replaced or recovered, including new vinyl and carpeting, and a new WC was installed to modernise the upper‑floor facilities. Together, these changes have created rooms that feel more comfortable and calming, particularly for counselling sessions, wellbeing courses and group activities.

Externally, the building has also benefitted from essential maintenance designed to protect it for the future. Gutters were cleared to prevent further blockages, cracked render was repaired, and a damaged lead patch above roof level was replaced. The rear of the property was redecorated, and new ACO drains were installed to improve drainage around the basement area, helping to prevent water ingress and maintain the building’s structure for years to come.

NPT Mind plays a crucial role in supporting mental health and wellbeing across Neath Port Talbot, offering counselling, crisis support, peer groups, courses and community activities for people experiencing challenges. The improvements to the building will help ensure that the charity can continue providing a safe, accessible and welcoming space for anyone who needs it.

Reflecting on the impact of the works, Tracey Sherlock, Co-CEO at NPT Mind, said:

“The improvements have made such a difference to our building and to the people who use it every day. The new spaces feel brighter, safer and much more welcoming. We’re incredibly grateful to Tai Tarian and the Procurement Alliance Wales for recognising how important a supportive environment is for anyone experiencing mental health challenges.”
