Tenants Enjoy Carmarthen Shopping Trip

Tenants Get Together For First Big Shopping Trip

NPT Homes tenants from sheltered schemes across the Borough got together recently to shop till they dropped in Carmarthen.

The trip was organised by a Sheltered Social Group who have been arranging social lunches for older residents for the past two years. The group have worked in partnership with Neath Port Talbot CVS and the lunches have proved so popular that the group were encouraged to branch out and offer residents a wider variety of social activities.

Following a successful summer trip to Tenby, a shopping trip was planned where tenants were picked up at their homes by Neath Port Talbot Community Transport to travel to West Wales. Lots enjoyed some retail therapy and enjoyed a nice lunch in the town of Carmarthen.

Tenant Empowerment Officer, Lynsey Hargreaves said:

“The Big Sunday Lunches have become really popular and now that friendships have been formed people were keen to branch out and socialise in a different environment.

The trip was a real success, with everybody joining together for some retail therapy.

Next up for the group is the Big Christmas Lunch taking place on Sunday 13th December at Bar Gallois. The Sheltered Social Group will be recruiting new members in the new year to arrange more social activities in 2016.”

Sheltered Social Group volunteer, Cath Jones said:

“The shopping trip to Carmarthen was a lovely day out, everyone had a great time. Lots of people in sheltered may not have the support, so it’s great for them to get out and about socially, getting to know new people from across Neath Port Talbot.”
