Tai Tarian Housing Association has offered a school pupil a taste of life in the housing sector by hosting her on work experience.

Taylor Mordecai, aged 15, a pupil at Maesteg Comprehensive School, spent a week working alongside housing professionals from the Neath Port Talbot social housing provider

The work experience saw Taylor spend time with various departments, allowing her to get a full understanding of the variety of work undertaken by the organisation. This included time with the Income team and Housing Applications team.

She also spent time out in the community, shadowing one of the organisation’s Repairs Inspectors as well as spending a day with the grass cutting and tree specialist teams.

Her biggest surprise was discovering that a housing organisation does so much more than just rent houses to tenants.

Speaking at the end of her time with Tai Tarian, Taylor said, “I’ve had a fantastic week and this was a great opportunity to learn about such an interesting organisation.

“I was so surprised by the variety of work, particularly the impact that is made in the community. I now have a much better understanding of the work organisations like Tai Tarian do and am considering a career in housing.”

Clare Way, Deputy Director of Housing at Tai Tarian said, “I’m glad to hear that Taylor enjoyed her time with us. We’re always happy to welcome students who are considering working in housing to join us and get a taste of what life in the sector can be like. As Taylor has found out, housing offers a wide variety of roles which can lead to very rewarding and fulfilling careers.”
