A Tai Tarian tenant who was having his home renovated has landed a new job with the contractor carrying out the work.

Anthony Bennett from Rhiwfawr in the Swansea Valley was having his home upgraded as part of the social housing provider’s External Wall Insulation installation programme.  After being made redundant three months earlier, Anthony approached RT Contractors, the company working on his home to ask if they had any work opportunities.  They put him in touch with their manager and after a few conversations and an informal interview, Anthony was offered a job with them, driving and delivering materials to their sites.

Speaking about his new opportunity, Anthony said:
“I was so lucky they were working on my street when I was looking for work, I was simply in the right place at the right time.  Nobody wants to be unemployed and at my age you do worry where the next opportunity will come from. I’m so thankful to RT Contractors for taking me on.

“I’m very impressed with the work they’ve carried out on my home, it looks great.  I was also impressed by high level of customer service offered by RT Contractors and Tai Tarian, including Mathew Jeffreys, my Tenant Liaison Officer.  Nothing was too much trouble for him and he kept my informed throughout the work.  I now need to emulate that same level of service in my new job.”

Richie Collins, Contracts Manager for RT Contractors said:
“We always try and employ local people when we can.  Approximately 80% of the people working on our external work programme are from the local area.  When Anthony approached us looking for work, we were only too pleased to give him a chance to see what he could do and we are really pleased with his work so far.”

Steve Grey, Senior Tenant Liaison Officer at Tai Tarian said:
“RT Contractors share the same values as us in terms of professionalism, customer service and creating great homes and thriving communities.  Therefore, we were delighted to hear that our investment in upgrading homes has led directly to one of our tenants finding employment.  We wish Anthony all the best in his new role.”
