Tai Tarian Supports Global Climate Strike

Thu 19 Sep 2019

Tai Tarian employees will be joining hundreds of thousands of people all over the world by taking part in the Global Climate Strike this Friday, 20th September.

The Neath Port Talbot based social housing provider is allowing a number of staff to attend rallies in Swansea and Cardiff to show its support for the cause, which aims to raise awareness and take action over the climate emergency.
The idea for Earth Strike began when young people involved in the student led 'Climate Strike' movement decided it was time for adults to join in. The activist group, started by Greta Thunberg, has grown in popularity with many Tai Tarian employees attending on the day and also taking their children and family members.
The Global Climate Strike will see over 2,500 demonstrations take place all over the world on the biggest ever day of action on climate change. They will see campaigners come together to voice their concerns and demand action, just three days before the UN emergency climate summit on 23rd September.

Tai Tarian’s Deputy Director of Assets, Andrew Carey, will be attending the protest in Cardiff he said:

“Without doubt, climate change is the biggest threat facing us today. As we are hearing over and over again, there is no Planet B.

As an organisation, we are embracing the decarbonisation agenda. One of the most critical challenges we face with decarbonisation is behavioural change. So, since July, we have followed the example of Greta Thunberg and made Fridays our day for the planet. It’s known as #FridaysForFuture and is a small, but significant step towards the way we work and travel to work. To date, they have been a huge success and has seen the number of cars in our carpark reduce by 30 to 50%. Over the coming months we’ll be expanding that throughout the working week as we look to decarbonise our organisation.

We have found that our staff are very concerned about climate change and, when the opportunity was offered to attend the Earth Strike, staff jumped at the chance. By letting a small but significant number of staff from across our organisation attend this protest, we are demonstrating how passionate we are about the environment and our desire to play a pivotal role in creating a sustainable planet”.
