Tai Tarian’s innovative housing scheme nominated for prestigious awards
Tai Tarian’s landmark re-development of County Flats in Port Talbot has been recognised with nominations in three different categories at a prestigious awards ceremony.
The Neath Port Talbot-based social housing provider has been shortlisted in the Innovation of the Year, Sustainability Award and Residential Development of the Year at the Wales Property Awards. The awards celebrate the work done in the property and construction industries across Wales.
The County Flats regeneration project will see the creation of 55 new homes and the transformation of 72 existing homes in a multi-million-pound investment.
The existing properties are being upgraded with a series of environmentally friendly features including solar panels, insulation and double-glazed windows. The newly built properties will also benefit from air source heat pumps, a system that absorbs heat from the outside air and uses it to heat the homes and hot water.
The award nomination recognises that the scheme is the first of its kind in Wales, combining new-build properties with the refurbishment of existing ones.
It has also been shortlisted due to the sustainable nature of the project – using multiple low-carbon locally sourced materials, including wool and mycelium for insulation. It was also commended for using modern methods of construction, with the modular units built at a factory just a few miles away from the site.
Tai Tarian’s Head of Development, Andrew Hall said:
“Building new homes in our communities is a priority for us and the County Flats project is a real landmark development.
“Thanks to the hard work of our team and the innovation of our partners, Hale Construction, Sero, Woodknowledge Wales, Seven Oaks Modular and Cardiff University, we are able to build some of the most sustainable homes in Wales.”
The winners will be revealed at the Wales Property Awards dinner at Cardiff City Hall the 15th June.
