Tai Tarian has invested over £44,000 worth of goods and services into local communities in the last year.

The amount is a combination of grant funding, donations from staff, and contributions from contractors as part of the social housing provider’s community benefits programme. The investment, which totals £44,398, has included upgrading community facilities, work on introducing biodiversity projects and giving employment opportunities to local youngsters.

Amongst the organisations to benefit were the NPT Pass Fit and Fed programme, where 135 packed lunches were provided for children taking part in school holiday sports camps, whilst the Giant’s Grave Boys and Girls Club in Briton Ferry and the NSA Centre in Port Talbot were among the facilities to receive free improvement work courtesy of Tai Tarian staff and contractors.

Schools also benefited from the investment, with Ysgol Trebannws just one to benefit with nature themed donations for their communal garden, whilst fruit trees were donated to the Riverside Court independent living complex in Pontardawe in an effort to create a sustainable orchard.

Amongst the biggest projects of the year, was £10,000 worth of improvements made to Canolfan Maerdy in Tairgwaith. Utilising a grant from the Welsh Procurement Alliance, a Tai Tarian team cleared the grounds and installed a variety of trees and shrubs to encourage wildlife and installed a communal garden for the community to use.

There have also been dozens of donations to local food banks as well as Christmas gifts to young careers and disadvantaged groups throughout Neath Port Talbot.

The investment also included creating job and training opportunities for local youngsters, with apprenticeships in trades such as scaffolding, site management and quantity surveying being offered through Tai Tarian’s contractors.

Rebecca Thomas is manager of the economic and social regeneration team at Tai Tarian. She said:
“As an organisation, we are committed to working with our communities and helping them to thrive and becoming sustainable. We’re really proud that our investment this year can help to achieve this.

“It’s been really pleasing to see so many different organisations benefit, from food banks to schools and youth clubs to retirement complexes, not to mention supporting the next generation to get on the career ladder.

“None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our contractors who have contributed so readily to our community benefits programme.  It’s so pleasing to see such partnership working really benefitting our communities in such a direct way.”
