Tai Tarian employment initiative shortlisted for major award
Tai Tarian’s ground-breaking social economic employment initiative has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.
The initiative, which was launched in 2017 has made the cut in the Best Training Scheme category at the 24housing Awards in recognition of the impact the programme has had on its participants.
The Copper Foundation upskills individuals who come from long-term workless families to help them find a route back into employment via appropriate training and on-the-job work experience. Recruits are given 12-month contracts and work alongside Tai Tarian’s experienced tradespeople to gain knowledge and expertise in a number of fields.
Since the scheme launched two years ago, a total of 38 people have been recruited with 71% of those who have completed the course, securing employment at the end of their contract.
One of the first recruits to enter the programme was Lewis Jones. After a successful year with the Copper Foundation, Lewis went on to secure a further role with Tai Tarian. Speaking about his experiences, he said:
“I learned a great deal by being part of the Copper Foundation project. I’ve worked with a great bunch of boys and had fantastic training and support from my supervisors and manager. I love working outdoors and hope I will be able to use lots of the skills I’ve learned with the Copper Foundation in my new job.”
The 24housing Awards were founded in 2013 to celebrate the very best that the housing sector has to offer. They recognise the outstanding organisations and individuals who have demonstrated their ability to thrive in the sector.
Speaking about the shortlisting, Aled Guy, the Copper Foundation’s Senior Operations Officer said:
"At Tai Tarian, we are very proud of the Copper Foundation and the success it’s had in a relatively short space of time in helping long-term unemployed people back into work. We are thrilled to have made the shortlist for these awards and is a testament to the hard work and dedication to everyone involved.”
The winners of the award will be announced on Thursday 10th October.
