Tai Tarian’s ambitious plans to create more social housing in Neath Port Talbot is continuing, with the conversion of a disused office block into flats.

The work at Llansawel Crescent, Briton Ferry is just the latest development by the social housing provider as it attempts to increase the amount of housing available locally.

The development is seeing the former offices being transformed into six modern, two bedroom flats.  Work at the site began in October, with the conversion being carried out by PBM Wales Ltd and support provided through the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant programme.

Andrew Hall, Tai Tarian’s Development Officer is overseeing the work.  He said:
“Developing new homes is a priority for us over the next couple of years and this development is just the latest in a series of building projects that we overseeing.  Having worked with PBM Wales on several other projects in the past, we know they will deliver homes of the highest quality.”

Residents living near the development are being kept up to date on progress by Tai Tarian’s Tenant Liaison team.  The service, which normally supports tenants during renovations to their own properties, has been extended to include people living in the vicinity of major building projects.

Mark Taylor is the Tenant Liaison Officer responsible for the area surrounding the site.  He said:
“As always, we are aim to ensure that the work goes smoothly and with as little disruption as possible.  However, due to the nature of construction work there could be some noise and inconvenience and so my role is to liaise with residents and work with them to resolve any concerns they may have.  We are keen to ensure that residents of Llansawel Crescent and surrounding area are kept fully up to date as the construction work progresses.”

Work to convert the flats is due to be completed by spring 2019.

This development is just the latest project undertaken by Tai Tarian to increase the number of homes available locally.  It recently completed building work at Pencaerau and Sandfields, with a major scheme in Skewen due to be completed imminently.  Building work is also continuing at Caewern whilst proposals to build 31 new homes at Parc Newydd, adjacent to the Llansawel Crescent development is currently at the planning stage.
