School benefits from Tai Tarian initiative
Pupils at a Skewen school will soon benefit from a new outdoor learning area thanks to a Tai Tarian initiative.
Coedffranc Primary School on Stanley Road is the latest beneficiary of the Community Benefits scheme, an initiative which sees any business who works with the housing provider having to give something back to the local community.
The latest benefit has seen £1000 being presented to the school, courtesy of Canda Copying Ltd, a leading supplier of photocopiers and printers.
The money will be used to create a new outdoor learning space which will be used by the school’s Phoenix Centre, a special unit which supports pupils who have potential social and emotional behavioural difficulties to learn through play. The new facility will aid their ability to express themselves and learn in a way that meets their needs.
Speaking about the award, Headteacher Geraint Jones said:
“Both Tai Tarian and Coedffranc Primary endeavour to support the local community in our own ways and this donation will certainly help to achieve that.
"We set up the Phoenix Centre to help provide opportunities for some of our community’s most vulnerable children and we are very grateful to Tai Tarian for supporting this vision.
"This new resource will prove a huge success for years to come and is an excellent example of community in action.”
Rebecca Thomas, Tai Tarian’s Tenant Liaison Manager is responsible for running the Community Benefits scheme. She said:
“We have around 9000 properties throughout Neath Port Talbot and we believe very strongly in giving something back to those communities.
“This is why any company we do business with must sign up to our Community Benefits scheme. This means that they too have to give something back, whether that’s providing training or employment opportunities for local people, helping with community projects or providing financial contributions to community groups. This ensures that everyone can benefit from the work we do.
"On this occasion, I’d like to thank our partners, Canda Copying for their generosity in providing these funds to Coedffranc Primary School and we look forward to seeing their new outdoor space in due course.”
