Scam warning
We’ve been made aware of a scam operating on social media, which offers you the chance to claim back money you’ve previously paid out via direct debits for things such as household bills or rent payments.
Victims will be asked to provide their bank account details to the scammer who will contact their bank and ask to cancel an existing direct debit and to claim back any money that has already been paid.
The scammer will then take 50% (or more) of this refund for their ‘service’, whilst they will keep hold of your bank details of potential scams in the future. In addition, as the direct debit that was cancelled was legitimate, you will need to make the payment again.
Whilst we are not aware of any of our tenants falling victim to this scam, we urge everyone to be vigilant. If you believe you are a victim and have been scammed into claiming your rent back in this way, then please contact your bank in the first instance to inform them and then our income team on 0300 777 0000 for assistance and further advice.
