Scaffolders aiming for new heights
Two young men from Neath are learning new skills after being given opportunities by one of Tai Tarian’s contractors.
Shane Williams, aged 19 and Dylan Davies, aged 18 have started working as apprentice scaffolders with Pinnacle Scaffolding, one of the main providers of scaffolding to the social housing organisation.
The opportunity came about as a result of Tai Tarian’s Community Benefits scheme where the organisation encourages its contractors to give work opportunities to local people.
Over the next couple of years, both will work to become fully qualified scaffolders.
Speaking about his experiences so far, Dylan said:
“Scaffolding is something that has always appealed to me and I’m very thankful to Pinnacle for giving me this opportunity to get into the industry.
“It was a bit daunting to begin with, getting used to all the various requirements and health and safety precautions.
“It’s a hard job, but l love being able to work outside. I don’t even mind the wind and rain – you just get used to it!”
Shane added:
“I’ve really enjoyed my time so far, working for Pinnacle. It's been a great opportunity to learn some valuable skills and I’m really looking forward to completing my training and becoming fully qualified.”
Leigh Hill, Managing Directior at Pinnacle Scaffolding said:
"It’s a pleasure to have Dylan and Shane as part of our team. They’re both really hard workers and we are delighted to be able to support them to develop their careers.
"As a company we feel it’s important to give opportunities to local youngsters like Dylan and Shane. I started out as an apprentice myself and so I like to give people the same opportunities that I had.
"I wish Dylan and Shane a long and successful career.”
Roxanne Collins, Community Regeneration Assistant at Tai Tarian said:
“As an organisation we believe in building great homes and great communities. Our social responsibilities are important to us, and we are delighted local young people are getting employment opportunities with our contractors.
“Pinnacle Scaffolding share the same outlook as us and we are confident that Dylan and Shane will develop greatly under their guidance. We are thrilled that they have seized this opportunity and we wish them every success in the future.”
