Rhos Primary School Next in Line for Big Makeover
As part of NPT Homes’ 2016 Community Challenge, Rhos Primary School near Pontardawe is the latest transformation set to take place.
On Friday 24th June, volunteers from NPT Homes, contractor Jistcourt and the school will be picking up paint brushes, pulling on overalls and even creating a new home for the school rabbit, as they get ready to continue with one of the biggest community challenge projects this year.
Work to the school will include developing the outdoor environment by creating an allotment to grow herbs, fruits and vegetables and making a scooter/bike track for children in the community to develop their riding skills. Dulux have also donated a range of paint to enhance the general appearance of the school yard, with the volunteers painting and purchasing new benches and drawing new ground markings for games and outdoor lessons.
In addition, the school shed will receive a new lease of life, a stage will be built for the children to play and perform and the school bunny, Thumper, will receive a new rabbit run for him to stretch his legs and provide a safe area for the children to care for him.
For the fourth year running, NPT Homes is investing in the local community by transforming a record eight community projects as part of their Community Challenge.
The partnership programme involves 12 of NPT Homes’ main contractors and suppliers, and will see projects from across the Neath Port Talbot Borough benefit from free building or maintenance work.
The Community Challenge begun as a direct result of the community benefits that became part of all contracts drawn up by NPT Homes. As a result, any business that works directly with the social housing provider must give something back to the community.
Head Teacher at Rhos Primary School, Ceri Cole, said:
“Applying for NPT Homes’ Community Challenge was easy and I am so happy the school was selected this year.
As a school we have a number of hard working staff who have raised lots of money to purchase equipment to benefit the children and community but we have not managed to complete our plans due to lack of expertise and time.
We are so excited to see the end results of the Community Challenge as it will give the children a more engaging and interactive place to play and learn.”
Jistcourt’s Project Manager Dawn Hedden, added:
“We have been working in partnership with NPT Homes for over four years and have always been passionate about giving something back through the Community Challenge. This year is no exception and we are really looking forward to being a part of the transformation at Rhos Primary and giving the children a playground they can be proud of.”
