A week-long series of talks and workshops organised by NPT Homes to raise awareness of Mental Health issues is proving popular amongst staff.

The sessions, held to mark Mental Health Awareness Week, are aimed at encouraging staff to look after their mental, as well as physical, health and providing them with information on where they can get advice and support if they are concerned with their well-being.

Taking place from 8th -14th May Mental Health Week is being promoted by the Mental Health Foundation and aims to uncover why too few of us are thriving with good mental health.

Over 20 different events have been organised over the course of the week and take up by staff has been really encouraging.  Events so far have included talks from mental health charities Gofal and MIND as well as workshops from local health and wellbeing providers.

Later in the week, counsellors will be available to staff who need support whilst there’ll also be ‘Body Balance’ classes and talks on dementia and mindfulness.  One of the most powerful events of the week will be a talk given by three NPT Homes staff to their colleagues on their experiences with mental health, the services they accessed and the support they received as they managed to overcome their illness.

Lorraine Evans, who’s organising the programme on behalf of NPT Homes said:
“As an organisation, we fully recognise the importance of helping to look after the mental health of our employees.  We are really pleased that the sessions held so far have been really well attended by staff who are keen to find out more.

We hope that by staging these events we can encourage staff who may be suffering from a mental condition to come forward and seek the help they need.”
