Street Squad

NPT Homes has launched a new pilot project called Street Squad. Street Squad will be piloted in areas within the Neath Port Talbot Borough that have been identified as requiring a street clean up or community intervention programme.

The first pilot project was held at Maes Gareth Edwards in Gwaun Cae Gurwen in Pontardawe on Tuesday 4th April.

The first Street Squad intervention included contractor SERS removing two brick planters that local residents had reported and Groundworks Cymru introducing safe yet exciting outdoor games and activities known as sustainable play for the local children.

NPT Homes also provided free skips to help residents dispose of waste and larger items in readiness for the next phase of the Welsh Housing Quality Housing Standard Improvements which NPT Homes will introduce in the area later in the year.

The idea of the Street Squad Team, which is made up of NPT Homes’ staff and local agencies when needed, was an idea that came from NPT Homes’ Board.

Chair of NPT Homes’ Board, Roger Williams said:
“The street squad project was introduced to give areas of the Borough that have been identified from our community regeneration research a small transformation that will hopefully provide local residents with the pride to maintain the street and area that they live.

We live in a beautiful Borough and by investing a little time and working with residents to maintain local communities, we can continue to provide desirable homes and areas where children can play safely and people are proud to live.”

The pilot was launched at Maes Gareth Edwards and will see other areas of the Borough benefiting from the pilot scheme over the next 12 months.

NPT Homes’ Community Regeneration Coordinator, Nicole Barnes, said:
“The 12 month pilot will see us working with residents in various areas across the Borough. After the pilot is complete we will revisit those areas and speak to residents to find out if our intervention has made a difference and to find out if this has improved the way they feel about the area in which they live.

We are committed to providing desirable homes and communities that our tenants are proud to live in. This is just one of the many project we provide for local residents and hope by working with tenants we will be able to maintain our attractive community together.”
