NPT Homes Fasts to Support #UKHousingFast
NPT Homes’ Equality and Diversity Champion Group encouraged staff to get involved and show their support for #UKHousingFast on Thursday 9th July to raise awareness of food poverty.
#UKHousingFast is about recognising that not everybody is lucky enough to know where their next meal is coming from. Staff made a meal sacrifice throughout the day and donated the cash they would have spent on their lunch.
Staff also donated items of food and toiletries to support one of the six foodbanks in Neath Port Talbot.
Over 500 items were donated and £140 was raised for local foodbanks. 25 members of staff also took part in the fast.
NPT Homes’ Equality and Diversity Champion Group Member, Karen Neale, said:
“#UKHousingFast is a great campaign that raises awareness of food poverty and the importance of supporting those who are facing crisis in the UK. By taking part in the fast brought home the impact hunger and lack of food has on individuals and the importance of foodbanks and other charities who support those in need. Last year, food banks were used 85,875 times in Wales and 30,136 of these food parcels were for children. The items and money staff donated will be split and donated to all six of the local foodbanks in Neath Port Talbot.”
