New Lease of Life for Neath Accommodation

New life is being breathed into one of NPT Homes’ Haven Housing schemes thanks to a £1.6m redevelopment, headed up by a local contractor.

Tŷ Gnoll Newydd was built in the 1980’s and the 30 bed complex is now in need of extensive refurbishment to bring residents’ homes up to a standard fit for the 21st century.

Port Talbot based contractor, Contract Services, will convert existing bedsits into one bedroom flats, with new kitchens, wet rooms and heating systems whilst also improving access in and around the scheme.

The communal areas of the scheme will also be refurbished in accordance with the Royal National Institute for Blind People (RNIB) Visibility Better scheme. 

With regular WHQS improvements work, tenants remain in their homes but, due to the scale and complexity of this work, residents have been given new temporary accommodation so that the transformation can be carried out.

All are eagerly anticipating the transformation of their homes which is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.

Director of Assets at NPT Homes, Steve Tucker, said:

“The work at Tŷ Gnoll Newydd is the biggest remodelling programme we have carried out in our sheltered schemes so far and it’s fantastic for us to be working with a local contractor to deliver the transformation.

 Residents are already excited at the prospect of moving back into a state of the art scheme and our Tenant Liaison Team are keeping them in the loop with all progress.”

The Redevelopment of Tŷ Gnoll Newydd is expected to be completed by the middle of 2017 and is one of NPT Homes’ 15 Haven Housing Schemes.

Haven Housing offers a range of rental properties for those over the age of 55, including studio apartments, one and two bedroom flats and bungalows.
