Job Success for Tai Tarian Recruits

Mon 26 Mar 2018

Two Tai Tarian employees are celebrating after landing full-time roles as a result of their work with the housing provider’s Copper Foundation project.

Lewis Jones and Levi Spencer were given 12-month contracts last summer as part of a programme designed to help people struggling to find work to gain new skills and experience.

Now, as they approach the end of their contracts, the pair have been successful in securing full-time roles.  Lewis will go on to work for Tai Tarian’s neighbourhood team whilst Levi has been offered a role by an external company.

The Copper Foundation project began in summer 2017 and aims to give people who struggle to find work a route back into employment.  Initially taking on seven people, it recently expanded to offer opportunities to a further eight workers.

Initially employed on 12-month contracts, the recruits work alongside Tai Tarian’s team of experienced tradespeople to gain knowledge and experience in a number of fields.  They also receive mentoring from Tai Tarian staff and advice on how to compile CVs, fill in job application forms and interview technique training. The project aims to give job seekers the necessary skills and confidence to secure full time employment in the future.

Speaking about his new job as a Neighbourhood Assistant, Lewis said:
“I’m over the moon to have landed this new opportunity.  I’ve learned a great deal over the past year by being part of the Copper Foundation project.  I’ve worked with a great bunch of boys and had fantastic support from my supervisors and manager.

I can’t wait to get started with Tai Tarian’s neighbourhood team.  I love working outdoors and hope I can use some of the skills I’ve learned with the Copper Foundation in my new job.”

Levi will be leaving Tai Tarian as he has secured a permanent role with Countrywide Grounds Maintenance, one of the largest grounds maintenance companies in the country.  He said:
“I decided to join the Copper Foundation last year to try and make a better life for myself.  I’ve really enjoyed my time with Tai Tarian and have learned so much.  My confidence has improved and I’ve gained lots of new skills.  I’ve had lots of help from my supervisors and other colleagues, who have provided me with a great deal of advice and support.  I’m really grateful for the opportunity the Copper Foundation has given me.

Aled Guy is Tai Tarian’s Senior Operations Officer and is responsible for overseeing the Copper Foundation project.  He said:
“I’m really thrilled for Lewis and Levi.  They’ve both worked hard over the past year and it’s great to see them go on to new roles.  This is the reason why the Copper Foundation was established – to give opportunities to people who were struggling to find work and providing them with the skills, knowledge and experience they need to go on to further opportunities.

I wish Lewis and Levi the best of luck in the future.”

The project is set to expand further over the coming years with up to 80 people being given opportunities over five years.
