Tai Tarian is delivering new homes in Port Talbot thanks to an innovative new approach which sees them working in collaboration with local construction specialists, Keeble Whelan Integrated Construction (KWIC).

The project, which is being backed by Welsh Government, will see two new bungalows built in Moorland Road, Sandfields.

In a first for the organisation, the work will be carried out by a mix of specialist local contractors and Tai Tarian’s own workforce.  The work will also utilise Tai Tarian’s apprentices, allowing them the opportunity to build up valuable skills and experience that are not available to them during their normal work activities.

Tai Tarian Director of Assets, Steve Tucker said:
“We are very pleased to undertake a project in this way.  It enables us to have the best of both worlds by utilising the skills of our own staff but also supporting the local economy by buying in services from local contractors, when necessary.

The normal procurement route meant that the scheme was too expensive and couldn’t proceed but this collaborative approach has reduced costs and will result in the provision of two new homes for residents of the borough”.

KWIC Wales are managing the project on behalf of Tai Tarian.  Their director, James Whelan, said:
“We are really excited to be working with Tai Tarian to provide modern, quality homes.

This innovative project is in line with Welsh Government’s ambitions to grow the construction industry in Wales and the collaborative approach we are using means we can benefit from the skills of Tai Tarian’s own tradespeople whilst also giving opportunities to local businesses.”

The new homes are due to be completed in Autumn 2018.
