Important safety milestone for NPT Homes

NPT Homes Compliance Team with Westward Energy Services

NPT Homes has achieved its most successful month ever for the number of heating systems it has inspected and serviced.

With over 9000 properties in its portfolio, the social housing provider, in partnership with its contractor Pontardawe based Westward Energy Services, must carry out an average of over 750 inspections and services every month. In October 2016, all appointments were kept and scheduled checks completed, meaning NPT Homes achieved a 100% compliance target for the first time in its short history.

Steve Tucker, Director of Assets at NPT Homes said:
“Whilst we aim for 100% compliance every month this is not always possible due to several factors such as tenants missing their appointments or our contractors being unable to gain access to a property.

Lack of annual safety checks can create a life threatening situation. As a responsible landlord we are legally obliged to carry out services and provide tenants with a gas safety check record to prove the work has been done. We strongly urge our tenants to stick to their pre-arranged appointments so that this vitally important work can be carried out.”

This 100% compliance milestone comes just five weeks after Gas Safety Week, a national campaign supported by NPT Homes that aimed to raise awareness of the importance of safely maintaining heating systems and appliances.

Anthony Slattery, Managing Director of Westward Energy Services who carry out the inspections on behalf of NPT Homes said:
“Every year, thousands of people across the UK are diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning due to poorly maintained boilers. The highly toxic gas is dangerous as you can’t see, taste or smell it but it can kill quickly with no warning. Therefore it is really important that tenants get their heating systems inspected and serviced and stick to their pre-arranged appointments with us.

Our engineers and staff have worked extremely hard targeting 100% service compliance and as Directors we are thrilled that Westward has been successful in achieving this”
