Domestic Abuse Workshop Hailed a Success

Wed 25 May 2016

Several NPT Homes tenants and employees have joined together recently to share domestic abuse experiences and raise awareness of the local support available to help those affected.

The workshop gave a better shared understanding of domestic abuse, with lots of practical suggestions about what can make a positive difference to people experiencing such abuse.

NPT Homes is committed to supporting victims of domestic abuse which aligns closely with Welsh Governments recognition of the importance of safe and secure housing for those affected.

The group will continue to meet so they can raise awareness to others, co-design a workable policy and procedure for NPT Homes and plan how other victims and support services can be involved in the future.

NPT Homes Specialist Projects Assistant Karen Jackson said:

“For many tenants this was the first time they had got involved in a workshop or event with NPT Homes. Sharing their domestic abuse experiences was really insightful and they really added value to the workshop.

The most important message for them was ensuring that victims were aware of the support available including the local domestic abuse one stop shop and the live fear free helpline.

If any tenants are interested getting involved with future workshops they can contact me on 01639 506624.”

“Attending the workshop was completely out of my comfort zone but I was completely put at ease. It was really good to meet with others that have been affected by Domestic Abuse and having our voices heard.

I’m looking forward to the next session where we will look at raising awareness of support and influencing NPT Homes’s policy and procedures for Domestic Abuse in the future.”
