Apprentice seizes chance thanks to Tai Tarian initaitive

A young man from Glynneath is learning new skills after being given an opportunity by one of Tai Tarian’s contractors.  Michael Haynes from Glynneath is an apprentice plasterer for RT Contractors, who are working on the External Wall Insulation programme on our behalf.

Speaking about his experiences so far, Michael said:
“When I left school I didn’t know what I wanted to do.  I started working with an agency and got placed by them at RT Contractors.  After proving myself through hard work I got offered a labouring job with them and then they offered me the chance to do a plastering apprenticeship.

"I’ve learnt so much in my time here.  I started off working inside, plastering walls on empty properties but as my confidence has grown I’ve moved outside to start working on the External Wall Insulation system.

"I’m really enjoying myself so far.  They treat me well and give me a lot of help when I need to practice a new skill.  As well as the practical element, I’ve also learned a lot about good customer service and treating people’s homes with respect – something that RT Contractors and Tai Tarian value highly.

RT Contractors have invested a lot in me as a person and I’m determined to repay that faith." 

Richie Collins, Contracts Manager for RT Contractors said:
“When Michael first came to us via an agency, we were immediately impressed by his attitude and willingness to learn.  We lept at the chance to then take him on full time and were only too pleased to support him in his apprenticeship.  He’s doing really well so far and we’re impressed with how he’s progressing.”
