Applications open for Tai Tarian’s biggest Community Challenge
Tai Tarian has launched its 2021 Community Challenge and is inviting community groups across Neath Port Talbot to apply for a day of free building or maintenance work.
The challenge is a partnership programme between the housing provider and its main contractors, which allows different community projects to benefit from a makeover.
With plans now being drawn up for the 2021 programme, Tai Tarian is inviting schools, community centres, playgroups and other community facilities to apply to take part.
Like so much else, the 2020 Community Challenge was put on hold due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, the projects that were due to be undertaken this year will now be done in 2021, alongside the new applicants. This means that next year’s Community Challenge will see a total of 10 projects being completed – the most undertaken in one year.
The six projects which will be carried over from 2020 are:
- Ystalyfera Community Hall
- YMCA, Port Talbot
- Brynhyfryd House, Briton Ferry
- Salem Chapel, Crynant
- Ysgol Trebannws
- St Mary’s Church, Port Talbot
Rebecca Thomas, Tai Tarian’s Economic and Social Regeneration Manger oversees the challenge. She said:
“Our Community Challenge is always a popular initiative and we are excited that we will be able help so many community facilities again next year.
“Unfortunately our 2020 challenge had to be abandoned due to the pandemic, however we are now planning to be back bigger and better next year as we work with our partners to complete 10 projects, the most we’ve ever undertaken in a single year.
“We’d like to thank our contractors for being so willing to help us and we would urge as many community groups as possible to apply to take advantage of this work.”
Groups wishing to apply for the 2021 Community Challenge can visit www.taitarian.co.uk/communitychallenge and fill in the application form. Deadline for applying is Monday 4th January 2021.
